| | I don't have cable, but I was at my mom's house for a few days last week, and I happened to catch the "White Rapper" show on VH1. I like those kind of programs that show a different side of life. It's about a bunch of white kids who are serious about developing their rapping careers. Anyhow, it seems some folks (white and black, both) were against, even repulsed, by the idea of white people rapping. To me, it's a no brainer. Cultures cross over, that is a natural occurence of human life whenever two cultures are in contact with each other. For example, last month I was driving home and I passed by a group of black teenagers. They were decked out in hip hop clothes and they were hanging out behind a building. I looked closely to see what was going on back there, and they were skateboarding! This made me laugh. I can remember when I was in high school and skateboarding started to take off. This was back in the early days of superstar Tony Hawk. I almost never saw a black skateboarder, and people laughed at the idea. Even today, I am sure there are some people (both black and white) who will disagree with black people making skateboarding their own hobby. But scorning cultural crossover is absolutely ridiculous, folks. That's why America is called a melting pot, because we are many different races and cultures blended together into one country. We have no standard identity. You can be any race and be American. You can be any religion and be American. So rap on, white rappers, and skate on, black skateboarders; don't listen to the scoffers. |
